Cookies

Every cookie this site sets, named.

Last updated: August 25, 2026

What this notice covers

This notice explains the cookies and similar storage technologies used on moative.com, which Moative, Inc. owns and operates. Read it alongside the privacy notice, which covers everything else we do with information about you, and the terms of use that govern the site itself.

It is a short notice because there is not much to declare. One analytics cookie family, one preference key, and the plumbing our host needs.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep. Session cookies vanish when you close the browser; persistent cookies stay until they expire or you clear them. Sites also use related techniques such as local storage, which holds a larger amount of data in the browser, and pixel tags, which are invisible images used to register that something was loaded.

First-party technologies are set by the site you are visiting. Third-party ones are set by somebody else whose code the site has loaded, which is how tracking follows people between unrelated websites.

What this site sets

NameTypeSet byPurposeExpires
moative-consentEssential, local storageMoativeRecords the analytics choice you made, so we can honour it and stop askingUntil you clear it
_gaAnalytics, cookieGoogleDistinguishes one browser from another for visit counting2 years
_ga_YJ54SFT4SBAnalytics, cookieGoogleHolds session state for our Google Analytics 4 property2 years

The two Google cookies are created only after you say yes. Decline, or simply never answer, and the Google tag is not requested, no script from Google runs, and neither cookie comes into existence. That is a stricter setting than the consent-signalling most sites use, where the tag loads anyway and merely promises to behave.

Our host also processes standard request logs, including your IP address, in order to serve pages and absorb attacks. Those logs are not a cookie and cannot be switched off without switching off the site.

What the blog sets

The blog lives at /blog/ under our domain but is served by Ghost, a third-party publishing platform, using its own front-end. Loading a blog page therefore fetches resources that the rest of this site does not.

ResourceProviderWhat it does
Portal and search scriptsjsDelivr CDNGhost subscription and search widgets. Requesting them reveals your IP address to the CDN
TypefacesBunny FontsServes the blog typefaces. Chosen because it sets no cookies and logs no personal data
Google Analytics 4GoogleThe same property used on the main site, injected by the blog theme

Be aware of a gap we would rather name than hide: the consent control on this site does not currently reach the blog theme, which loads its analytics tag independently. Closing that gap is on our list, and until it is closed the honest position is that a blog page may load Google Analytics regardless of the choice you made here. Blocking cookies in your browser is the reliable control in the meantime.

How to change your mind

  • Use the preferences panel. The cookie preferences link at the bottom of every page reopens the panel. Switch analytics off and we clear the Google cookies from this domain on the spot.
  • Use your browser. Every major browser can block or delete cookies for a given site, and private browsing windows discard them on close. Blocking essential storage may stop the site remembering that you already answered this question.
  • Opt out at Google. Google publishes a browser add-on that prevents Analytics from measuring your visits to any site.

What you will not find here

No advertising or retargeting pixels. No social media tracking widgets. No data brokers, no identity graphs, no fingerprinting scripts, and no session-replay software recording your clicks and keystrokes for playback.

The absence is the point. A site that argues its readers deserve better instrumentation should not instrument its readers.

Updates

Add a technology and this table changes with it, along with the date at the top of the page. If a new category of cookie ever appears here, it will appear in the preferences panel first and will be off until you say otherwise.

Questions

Ask us anything about this at hub@moative.com, including which requests a given cookie generates and what leaves your browser as a result.

Cookies on this site

We set one analytics cookie so we can see which pages get read. It does not follow you to other sites, and we do not run advertising trackers. Everything else here is the plumbing that makes the site load. Read the cookie notice.

Cookie preferences

Essential Always on

Security headers, form spam protection, and the record of the choice you make here. These do not identify you and the site cannot run without them.

Google Analytics 4, with IP anonymisation on. Tells us which pages are read and which are ignored. Turn this off and the Google tag is never loaded at all.
